Two armed robbery suspects paraded by the
Department of State Services (DSS) in Awka, Anambra State, Tuesday [Sept
13.] blamed the hard times currently being faced by Nigerians as the
motivation for delving into crime. One of the suspects, Uche Ezeugo,
said he was forced into robbery to make some money to enable him give
his father a befitting burial, adding that stealing is not in his
lineage. “I’m not a natural thief. It’s this Buhari hard condition that led me into this temptation,”
he said. The suspects were arrested for allegedly stealing some
laptops. His accomplice, Somadina, blamed his action on hunger and
starvation. The two, in their 20s, from Aguluezechukwu in Aguata council
area of the state, were apprehended by the DSS at Nanka in Orumba North
Local Government Area of the state. While confessing to the crime, the
suspects said it was their first time and pleaded for leniency,
promising to desist from such acts in the future. The state Commissioner
of police, Mr. Sam Okaula, confirmed their arrest. He said the laptops
were disposed by the suspects before they were arrested. He also said
that two pump action guns and one locally made rifle were recovered from
the suspects who he disclosed would soon be charged to court after
investigations.
